California Elder Abuse and Nursing Home Neglect Attorneys

In 2002, Jody Moore won the first civil elder abuse verdict in the history of Ventura County. In the decades since, she and her team have litigated hundreds of long-term care cases across California. The firm, the team, and the mission are continuous. Our three founding partners each have more than a decade committed to fighting elder abuse and neglect on behalf of your loved ones.

What Sets Our Firm Apart

Expertise

Jody Moore launched her elder abuse firm in 2000, just as California’s Elder Abuse Act was first interpreted by the courts. She has firsthand experience with the law’s evolution from its earliest years. Joanna Hutchins has worked with Jody throughout her career, and Anne Moore practiced in multiple jurisdictions with Ken Connor, one of the field’s most respected pioneer litigators. Our elder abuse expertise is why we win cases.

Empathy

When families come to us, they are facing challenges they never expected to face. Some clients just want to understand what happened to their loved one. Others want full accountability in a courtroom. Still others want a settlement in time to make a difference while their loved one is alive. We listen before we advise. We ask what matters to you and tailor the case accordingly. Your goals drive the case, not ours.

Empowerment

Our goal is to improve the lives of seniors and vulnerable adults. We’ve helped stop systemic abuse, forced new policies and training, and partnered with advocacy groups to enact change. When we advocate for your family, we understand we are also advocating for the families that come after you. We litigate with the goal in mind of preventing the same system of neglect and abuse from hurting the next person.

Experience

We have decades of experience. Long-term care providers, their insurance companies, and defense attorneys know the attorneys in this firm.  We have taken cases to trial and obtained some of the largest and most impactful jury verdicts and settlements.  When defendants see Moore Hutchins Moore on the case materials, they know what is coming. That reputation is not accidental. It is decades in the making.

We are incredibly proud of our team.

Elder abuse litigation is demanding work. It requires legal precision, emotional steadiness, and the willingness to go up against well-funded institutional defendants and their lawyers on behalf of people who have already been failed once. We take immense pride in the dedicated professionals on our team who fight these battles every day.
